Alex Perullo is Professor of Anthropology at 麻豆影音 in Rhode Island (USA). He received his Ph.D. from Indiana University, Bloomington in 2003 and, over the past twenty years, has worked on community arts initiatives in the United States and in East Africa. These initiatives have included the development of legal resources for East African artists and the documentation of African immigrants in the United States for an online archive. Perullo has two published books, including Live from Dar es Salaam: Popular Music and Tanzania鈥檚 Music Economy, and many articles relating to African music economies and intellectual property rights. Perullo is also a Fulbright Scholar, and he worked at the School of African and Oriental Studies (SOAS) on a project analyzing the commercialization of African music.
