What have you done with your communication degree?

I’m really lucky to have landed my dream job right out of college. I work for Kraft Sports + Entertainment, or the New England Patriots. Most of my work is for the New England Patriots Foundation, overseeing the military and volunteerism pillars. We’re constantly planning outreach events throughout the year to celebrate and support those groups. My communication degree has been helpful with many of my writing responsibilities.

How did you land your position?

I had an internship with a nonprofit before graduation, and it got my wheels turning about working for the community arm of a larger company. When this job came up, my mom said, “You have to apply; this is your dream job.” I’ve always been a big Patriots fan and thought about eventually working in athletics.

I applied and felt very prepared for the interview because of Bryant. There was a specific course I took with Professor Lori Coakley in which she gave a lot of great tips and brought lots of guest speakers in to talk about interviewing. I am confident that helped me land this job.

In what other ways did Bryant prepare you?

I say this whenever I talk about Bryant: The group projects you do are so important. You learn how to work with others and divvy up work and delegate. My department has seven people, and we’re working together constantly and supporting each other however we can. Working with different styles and personalities isn’t always smooth, so learning that at Bryant was really helpful.

Why did you choose communication as your major?

With communication, you can take so many different paths. I enjoyed the openness of it. Having a business minor has been advantageous. I have three areas that I can say I focused on in school, and I took classes I would have never taken otherwise. Many of my courses are still useful to me today.

A Connected Community

Bryant's purposeful student life delivers co-curricular immersion with an inspiring, collegial community. Students forge deep connections that last a lifetime.

“I’m really grateful for my Bryant education because it’s made me realize that I have a lot of options when it comes to career pathways. I’m interested in human resource management, and I also really like event planning and diversity, equity, and inclusion. Bryant has made me realize that I can do anything.”

The field itself. Data science is a hot topic. It’s quite interesting to learn about machine learning, and, you know, AI is booming right now. So those topics really caught my interest. Also, I had the opportunity to join the tennis team. So the subject itself, the tennis team, and Bryant itself is a great place to pursue a master’s degree -- all three things combined.
